Mother’s Day at The Clarendon: A Thoughtful Way to Say Thank You

Mother’s Day has a habit of sneaking up on us. You want to do something meaningful – not rushed, not generic – but finding the right way to mark the day can feel harder than it should.

Flowers are lovely and cards are important. But what many mums appreciate most is time – time together, a chance to sit back, and the luxury of not having to organise or host anything themselves.

That’s exactly what Mother’s Day at The Clarendon Hotel is designed to offer – a relaxed, welcoming setting where families can come together and simply enjoy the day.

A Proper Mother’s Day Lunch, Without the Pressure

For many families, Sunday lunch is at the heart of Mother’s Day – but it’s also where the pressure often creeps in. Shopping, cooking, timing everything just right, and making sure everyone’s happy can take the shine off what should be a celebratory day.

This Mother’s Day Lunch, taking place on Sunday 15th March, is a chance to enjoy that tradition without any of the effort.

Hosted in our elegant Meridian Restaurant, lunch is served in a calm, comfortable setting, with live piano music adding a gentle, celebratory atmosphere throughout the afternoon. It’s refined without being formal – the kind of environment where everyone can relax.

The menu features a three-course carvery, carefully prepared and designed to appeal to all generations around the table. As a small but thoughtful touch, complimentary flowers are included for every mum, making sure she feels celebrated from the moment she arrives!

A More Relaxed Celebration: Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

If your mum prefers something a little slower-paced, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea offers a beautifully unhurried way to celebrate.

Served in The Clarendon’s welcoming surroundings, afternoon tea is ideal for smaller gatherings or for those who enjoy cakes and tea with their conversation!

Classic Afternoon Tea

Guests can expect a carefully prepared selection of freshly made finger sandwiches, including smoked salmon with cream cheese, egg mayonnaise with mustard cress, and honey roast ham with mustard. These are followed by homemade fruit scones, served warm with Cornish clotted cream and English strawberry preserves, and a selection of mini cakes, all accompanied by a choice of Twinings teas

It’s a classic afternoon tea experience – generous without being overwhelming – and one that works beautifully for mixed-age groups.

Afternoon Tea for Children (12 Years and Under)

Mother’s Day celebrations often include the whole family, and our Children’s Afternoon Tea makes sure younger guests feel just as included.

Designed especially for children aged 12 and under, the menu features familiar favourites such as jam, chocolate spread and cheese finger sandwiches, alongside homemade fruit scones with Devon clotted cream and strawberry jam. A pot of jelly adds a playful touch, with drinks choices including tea, hot chocolate, milk or orange juice

It’s relaxed, approachable and thoughtfully put together, allowing children to enjoy the experience while parents can linger over their own afternoon tea.

Vegan Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

We also offer a dedicated Vegan Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, ensuring plant-based guests can enjoy the occasion without compromise.

The vegan menu includes a selection of freshly made finger sandwiches filled with Mediterranean vegetablescourgettes, peppers, onions and aubergines, and cucumber, hummus and avocado. These are paired with homemade vegan scones served with English strawberry preserves, followed by a cake selection featuring vegan cupcakes and lemon vegan cheesecake. As with all our afternoon teas, this is served with a choice of Twinings tea

It’s a carefully considered alternative that mirrors the indulgence of the traditional menu, rather than feeling like an add-on.

Whether you’re celebrating with young children, accommodating different dietary needs, or simply looking for a slower, more relaxed way to mark the day, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at The Clarendon is designed to feel inclusive, thoughtful and genuinely special.

Why Celebrate Mother’s Day at The Clarendon?

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be over the top to feel meaningful. More often than not, it’s the simple things – feeling welcomed, being looked after, and having time together – that make the day special.

At The Clarendon, everything is designed to help you relax into the occasion. The atmosphere is warm and family-friendly, the food is carefully prepared without feeling formal, and the little details are there to make Mum feel genuinely appreciated rather than rushed through a sitting.

Being right in the heart of Blackheath village also means the celebration doesn’t have to end when the plates are cleared. You can take a gentle walk across the Common, stop for a coffee nearby, or simply enjoy a slower afternoon together, turning Mother’s Day into more than just a meal, but a day properly spent.

Book Early to Avoid Disappointment

Mother’s Day is one of the most popular dates in the calendar, and spaces for both lunch and afternoon tea are limited.

Whether you’re planning a family gathering or a quieter celebration, booking ahead ensures you can choose the time and experience that suits your plans best.
