Historic Blackheath has a very long history with both the Roman and Saxon period, many other historical events are documented such as Wat Tyler revolt of 1381 who assembled on the heath, Jack Cade Rebellion camped here in 1450 and the Cornish Rebels fought with Henry VII in 1497, but in 1540 a gorgeous scene of pageantry was staged when Henry VIII went to meet Anne of Cleaves on the Heath. The game of Golf was also introduced to England by James 1st on Blackheath first played in 1608.
Having been in the ownership of the O’Donnell family for over 52 years and the family love of Maritime Greenwich is reflected in some of the names of the public rooms. The Meridian Restaurant, named after the Prime Meridian of the World, located at the Royal Observatory in nearby Greenwich Park. The main bar is named after navigational charts used by sailors to navigate the globe.
