New Year’s Eve in Blackheath: Champagne, Dinner, the Midnight Countdown and a Room for the Night

Most New Year’s Eves have a moment where the plan starts to wobble.

Sometimes it’s halfway through dinner, when someone mentions the next bar and the whole table has to decide whether to move on or stay put. More often it’s at quarter past midnight, standing on a cold pavement, refreshing a taxi app while the price keeps climbing.

This year, we’d like to take all of that off your hands.

At The Clarendon, New Year’s Eve runs from the first glass of Champagne to breakfast the next morning, all in the heart of Blackheath. The only thing you’ll need to keep an eye on is the clock, and you can even ignore that until about 11pm.

Join us on Thursday 31st December for Champagne and canapés, a four-course dinner with live piano music and the countdown to 2027 in the Chart Bar. Here’s how the night unfolds.

The First Glass: Champagne and Canapés

The evening opens with a glass of Francoise Monay Brut Champagne and canapés, brought to your table.

This is the unhurried part of the night. Coats are off, everyone’s arrived (more or less on time) and midnight still feels a long way off. It’s the moment to catch up properly and raise a first toast to the year you’ve had.

The Main Event: Four Courses and Live Piano

Then it’s time to sit down to the last proper meal of 2026, with live piano music playing as the courses arrive.

Among the dishes on the menu, you’ll find roast leg of lamb with a rosemary, redcurrant and thyme jus, the kind of plate that makes a table go quiet for a minute. Grilled salmon with dill and prawn sauce is a lighter choice but every bit as celebratory, and the vegan heritage pot pie makes sure nobody’s left picking at the sides.

Pudding deserves its own plan of attack. Warm apple tarte Tatin comes with vanilla ice cream or custard, which is a decision in itself. Passion fruit cheesecake with mango is bright and fresh, while the rich chocolate truffle torte is for anyone who thinks the end of the year calls for chocolate. If you’d rather finish on something savoury, the cheeseboard comes with oatmeal biscuits, preserves and chutney.

The Final Hour: Countdown in the Chart Bar

Dinner wraps up at around 11pm, which leaves the best hour of the year still to come.

Make your way through to the Chart Bar, settle in and let the anticipation build. Then it’s ten, nine, eight… and when the clock strikes twelve, raise a glass of sparkling wine and welcome 2027 with us in Blackheath.

Look at what you didn’t have to do: no coats back on, no hunting for the next venue and no headcount on the pavement. Dinner leads straight into the countdown, so your group stays together for the moment that matters most.

The Morning After: Stay Over and Wake Up in Blackheath

This is usually where New Year’s Eve falls apart. It doesn’t have to.

Book our New Year’s Eve Dinner & Stay package and, once the celebrations wind down, your room is waiting. No last trains, no taxi queues and no journey across London in the early hours.

Wake up on New Year’s Day and take your time over our award-winning Full English breakfast. Then, if you fancy blowing the cobwebs away, Blackheath Common is just outside, ready for your first walk of 2027.
